Laser Therapy at Corrimal Family Chiropractic Centre

As another tool in our toolbox to assist patients, we offer modern cold laser therapy. This state-of-the-art modality has many benefits including pain relief. It also increases circulation and may speed up healing of injuries.

The History of Cold Laser Therapy

Doctor doing laser therapy on patientDiscovered in 1967, cold laser therapy has been in use for over 40 years, with no documentation of serious side effects. In test groups, when chiropractic care and cold laser therapy were combined, patients saw double the improvement of using just a single therapy.

How Does Cold Laser Therapy Work?

A practitioner uses a handheld device to direct low-level light to the problem area. Though you will feel the device against your skin, you won’t feel a cold sensation or any pain or discomfort. As the targeted tissue takes in the light energy, the red and near infrared light initiate biological responses that may stimulate healing.

Targeting Pain & Promoting Recovery

This super pulsed cold laser is used to target pain to provide relief and repair. It helps to increase blood circulation in your body and may reduce swelling and promote fast healing for a full recovery. It’s used in all the major football clubs in America and may greatly help injuries to heal.

A recent medical study in the Lancet journal has found that the MR4 laser boosts oxygen levels and releases more oxygen to damaged tissues. It also activates natural pain relievers improving total body blood flow. By reducing swelling and inflammation, it may speed up the healing response and reduces the formation of scar tissue.

What to Expect

You can elect to come in just for laser therapy if you wish. Each session takes about 20-30 minutes. The practitioner will apply the laser to the area of concern. Laser therapy is painless.

Many patients receive both laser therapy and chiropractic care. For example, if a patient isn’t getting the results they’re seeking from laser alone, then chiropractic is often recommended. On the other hand, it may be suggested that, in addition to chiropractic, you also receive laser therapy during your visits.

FAQs

How many sessions does it take?

For some acute conditions, you may get the results you’re seeking in 2 to 6 sessions. If you have a chronic condition you may require 6-10 sessions. If you have severe arthritis, you may need ongoing periodic laser therapy to manage the pain.

Everyone responds differently to care, but you may feel improvement after your first session. Please note that not everyone responds to laser therapy and we don’t guarantee results.

Can it be used for during pregnancy?

We do not recommend that pregnant women receive laser therapy.

Can laser therapy be used over medical implants or metal?

Yes, there is no heating of surgical or metal implants, so therapy can be used if you’ve had such implants.

We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and that you don’t apply any type of body lotions or oil on the area that will be addressed.
